Re: AME Church - Incorporation
of AME Reinsurance Ltd
First Board Meeting - 2nd February,
2001
Bishop John Hurst Adams, Senior Bishop of the AME Church
Bishop Philip Robert Cousin, Sr., Bishop of the 4th
Episcopal District and Chairman of AME Reinsurance
Ltd.
Bishop Cornal Garnett Henning, Bishop of the 8th Episcopal District
Mr. Nalton Brangman, Vice Chairman of the Board
Reverend Dr. Leonard Santucci, Secretary of the Board
Board Members in Abstention
Other Dignitaries and Friends
On behalf of Madam Premier, Dr. the Hon. Jennifer
Smith, who is an AME and member of Richard Allen AME Church, and the
Government of Bermuda, I am delighted to convey to the leadership of the
Church words of congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of
Bermuda for this captive incorporation.
Through this incorporation, the AME Church joins with
thousands of others who operate out of Bermuda as an international,
financial and commercial centre.
This incorporation is an historic step, both for the
Church and for the country, as it will now allow the Church to do more in
the fulfillment of its Missions’s ministry commitment on a global scale.
This incorporation can be seen in the context of the
AME Church’s past as another significant milestone in the rich history
of the Church with the highlight being Bishop Richard Allen’s protest
demonstration in St. George’s Methodist Episcopal Church in
Philadelphia, PA (1787). That demonstration led to the creation of the AME
Church more than 200 years ago.
This incorporation should lead to a new awakening in
the AME Church.
To this end, we believe that Bishop Cousin, Sr., Mr.
Brangman and Dr. Santucci will be regarded as three visionaries of
the new millennium in the AME Church.
