As rains fell today in Mozambique, Bishop William DeVaux, presiding prelate of the 18th Episcopal District, starting making plans in America for his part in the Mozambique relief effort.
Bishop DeVeaux said he would be back in Mozambique by March 23. He plans to hit the ground running when gets back to the flood-devastated country, that is part of his Episcopal District.
He said, "We will take a group from Swaziland along with all the contributions we have across the border to Mozambique. Currently the A.M.E.s in Maputo can not transport material to the northern provinces but when the roads are passable we will be ready to go," Bishop DeVeaux said.
He said anyone who wanted to help in this relief effort could send funds to:
The 18th District Mozambique Relief Fund,
8860 Woodland Drive
Silver Spring, Md 20910
Bishop DeVeaux acknowledged there will be no quick fix for the flooding that has left nearly a million people homeless and has taken the lives of over 400 people.
He says he is returning to Mozambique prepared for the long haul.
"We expect a long-term project," Bishop DeVeaux said, "Which will include food, clothes and church reconstruction."
Bishop DeVeaux said the sending of aid did not have to end when he departed for Mozambique. That relief funds still could be funneled through the American address.
"When I am in Africa, the 18th Episcopal District treasurer will still be able to receive funds and send them to me," Bishop DeVeaux concluded.
