The Loss of Edgar L. James, recent Bishop Candidate, who died while on
vacation in Italy

Funeral services were held,
Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at 11.am. for Rev. Edgar L. James, pastor of Turner Memorial
A.M.E. Church in
Washington, D.C. and recent candidate for Episcopal office at the 46th
General Conference. He was called Home To Glory October 1 while on vacation with his wife Florence.
The had just begun the celebration of their 35th Wedding Aniversary with several
members of their family and friends. They were planning a Mediterranean
cruise but Rev. James suffered a heart attack the day before they were to board
their ship. He is survived by his wife, Florence James and two children: Angela
Washington and Eric James, his mother, Lillie Mae James-Woods, five sisters:
Symentha Hollingshead, Claudia Cross, Roena Gray, Margaret Green, M. Linden
Griffith and Pearl Arnette Williams. He also leaves behind many
other close family members, in-laws and hundreds of friends and colleagues who
