The Rev. William C Legolie II is announcing his candidature as Secretary/Treasurer for the Missions Department in 2000 as Africa's chocie.
Rev. William Charles Legolie II is the Pastor of Vinton Anderson Chapel A.M.E. Church in the Cape Annual Conference of the 15th Episcopal District in South Africa.
He was ordeained in 1979 and 1981 by Bishop D. G. Ming and the late Bishop J. E. Hunter.
He describes his vision thusly:
"I will work for human and economic development; strive for justice; cross cultural mission and interreligious dialogue; work towards total eradication of exploitative and oppressive structures; create opportunities to seek fellowship all over the world and still meet the changing needs and concerns through intensive training and Christian witnessing; assist all the Bishops in any way they will require; will be a good steward and give a "full day's" work and account for all."
Rev. Legolie's adds in his aannouncement release, "Never in the long history of the African Methodist Episcopal Church has somebody from Africa been elected to the position of General Officer. We (Africa and I) are asking the Church to make history in 2000 and elect Rev. William C Legolie II as Secretary / Treasurer for the Missions Department / Global Ministries!
"We (Africa and I) believe that Missions (Africa is regarded as the major Mission field) can be best served by someone from Africa , who appreciates the different cultures, understands the language and suffering, has the youth ,experience and energy to move around in the different fields on the different continents and that can make the connection for Church Extension and Evangelism.
"I have been a good ambassador for the Church all over the world. I have travelled, served, preached and worked and still work as a faithful servant. It is my wish to continue to serve in a new capacity. I am ready to share the work of the leadership of this great Church of ours and strengthening the connectional ties in unifying the church.
"I am Africa's choice! Give a thought to Africa and elect Rev. William C.. Legolie II for the Mission's department," he concludes.
