Morris Brown College focus of Tom Joyner Foundation in January

By John Fisher
A.M.E. Today Publisher

This month I have been informed, that the Tom Joyner Foundation will be setting its focus on helping Morris Brown College, in Atlanta Georgia, an A.M.E. sponsored school of  higher learning.  In April it will focus on Wilberforce, another of the Histroic Black Colleges and Universities.

To see some of the other colleges and universities supported by the A.M.E. Church [GO] Below is the statement from the Joyner Foundation as to its look at Morris Brown this month:

Each month the Tom Joyner Foundation selects a specific HBCU (Historic Black Colleges and Universities)  to focus our funding raising efforts towards.

During the month of January the HBCU of the month is Morris Brown College.

We encourage individuals, groups, organizations and alumni of Morris Brown College to join us in our effort to support this institution of higher learning.

Morris Brown College, founded in 1881 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college engaged in teaching, research, and public service in the arts, humanities, education, professional programs, social sciences, and natural sciences.

Morris Brown College, in its commitment to academic excellence, provides experiences that foster and enhance intellectual, personal, and interpersonal development for students who have demonstrated the potential to compete in a challenging undergraduate liberal arts program of study.

Moreover, since educational endeavors may not be circumscribed by the limitations that students bring with them to the institution, the College, in its commitment to a liberal admissions policy, provides access to personal development and intellectual growth for students who show potential for sustained study at the undergraduate level.

The College recognizes that variables characterizing students admitted on this basis often reflect experiences that may not be indicators of capabilities of future accomplishments. .

Contributing to Morris Brown College through the Tom Joyner Foundation is easy. You can:

  • a.. Call 900-933-GIVE and your donation will be billed directly to your telephone bill

  • b.. You can mail a check or money order to: The Tom Joyner Foundation PO Box 630495 Irving, TX 75063 Remember.all individual donations will be matched by the Ronald McDonald House Charities at fifty-cents on the dollar.

Here is a listing of the A.M.E.  HBCU's that will benefit from the Tom Joyner Foundation in 2001:

January - Morris Bown

April - Wilberforce
