Rev. Ismael Petrus /Goagoseb,
an itinerant elder of the Namibia Annual Conference in the 15th
Episcopal District was "called to higher service" on Thursday,
November 30th, 2000.
He died from a heart
attack about 10h00 in the medical doctor's surgery.
Rev. /Goagoseb was
ordained an itinerant deacon and itinerant elder in 1981 and 1984
respectively by the late Bishop John Elsworth Hunter.
He has pastored
Ebenezer AME Church (Blaau Wes), St. Mark's AME Church (Gibeon), St.
John's AME Church (Walvisbay), St. Gustav AME Church, (Okahandja), St.
James AME Church (Mariental), St. Andrews AME Church (Khomasdal) and
Ebenezer AME Church (Katutura).
His major
achievement was the multi-purpose centre he built at St. Andrews AME
church (Khomasdal), dedicated by Bishop McKinley Young and Bishop Harold
B Senatle.
He was married to
Mrs. K E /Goagoseb, the current Namibia Conference Branch WMS
President.
Rev. /Goagoseb
attended the 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000 General Conferences as a
delegate.
He is survived by
his beloved wife and 4 sons. He was put to rest from St. Mark's AME
Church, Gibeon on Sunday, November 10th, 2000. The Rev. Dr. Wilfredt
Messiah delivered the sermon from the theme, "The Day of the Lord
comes like a thief in the night", and he moved the five thousand
plus mourners with this comforting exposition. The
Burial was conducted
by Rev. Dr. Hendrik Witbooi, the Namibia Deputy Prime Minister.
